Flower Power Decor - Retro and Classic

A flower power theme is one that can really explode with color and can be so much fun!

The ways you can do this room are endless, but we will try to give as many ideas as we can. When it comes to a flower power room, two styles come to mind. There is the retro style and then the more classic style.

For the retro look you would use a lot of bright colors like neon pinks, greens, blues, and yellows and stick with the 5 petal flower shape. A good visual for you would be to think 70's!

For the classic look you can also use the bright colors, but mix the types of flowers you use up a bit. You can also go for the pastel colors that look so good in a little girl's room.

Let's take it step by step from the walls to the floors and create a remarkable flower power room!

The Walls

There are LOTS of great ideas for the walls. If you decide to paint, one quick way to get some color on those walls is to sponge paint flowers randomly all over the walls. You can find flower sponges at any craft store and use the acrylic craft paints. This can literally be done in a couple of hours and it looks really good.

Some solid wall colors to consider are pink, yellow, lavender or an off white.

Another good option is flower power wallpaper. You can either choose to wallpaper the entire wall or go with a border. Some border ideas are ones with tulips and butterflies , 5 petal flowers or Flowers Wallies which add a nice touch.

Wall muralsare also a fun way to decorate and make a big statement in a room.

Flower art work is always a good way to dress up a room and if you are on a tight decorating budget for your flower power room, then flower power posters are a great way to decorate.

Bedding and Windows

If you decide to really do up the walls then toning down the bedding would be a good way to go. You don't want someone to walk into the room and get dizzy from all the flowers. Flower Power doesn't mean major sensory overload! Decorate the room tastefully and create a balance.

A solid color bedding set can be dressed up with flower pillows. Just MAKE SURE that the color you choose goes well with the paint or wallpaper.

For a flower explosion on the bed there are many different bedding sets to choose from. You could go with bedding that has just flowers all over it or you could also decorate with bedding that has a little bit of everything like bugs and flowers .

As far as the window treatments, most bedding sets have curtains that match. Or choose a solid color from the bedding for the curtains. Another really nice look is to match the curtains to the wall color. This gives the look of the room a sense of order.

When shopping for the curtains decide ahead of time what type you need for the room. Choices include: floor length, valances, swags, roman shade style and etc...

A really cute idea for the windows in a flower power room is to take a curtain rod, a strand of silk flowers and wrap them around the curtain rod. Then take another curtain rod, installed under the first one, and hang sheer white curtains. This will give the room a real feminine look.

It may be that you don't even need or want curtains for the room. For a real cottage look consider putting up white shutters

Furniture

White furniture is the best choice for a flower power room. You could go with wood furniture painted white, white wicker furniture or white rod iron.

The Rug

The are so many cute rugs out there now that it can be a little exhausting choosing just the right one.

First decide what you need the rug for: a play space for the kids or just for decoration.

If you need a rug for a play space, then a good size rug in a solid color is a good idea. Trying to find a big rug with flowers that matches all the other flowers could be very frustrating. Your best bet is a solid color.

If you just want a cute rug on the floor for decoration, a lot of bedding sets have a rug that match. Flower shaped rugs are really cute and would look great either at the foot of the bed or the side of the bed where you little girl takes her first step inthe morning.

The Accessories

There are some great options for the accessories in a flower power bedroom.

Silk flowers are my favorite! Oh what you can do with silk flowers. You can buy silk flowers in so many different arrangements. They come in a strand, separately, in a bunch etc...

Some good decorating ideas with silk flowers are: (1) cut off the bud or flower and put them in a clear glass vase; (2) Hot glue some silk flowers around a frame; (3) Fill white wicker baskets with all different kinds of flowers and put them all around the room or (4) Make a wreath out of your favorite flowers. Use your imagination and come up with some of your own ideas! Silk flowers are a great budget decorating idea!

Fresh flowers in a vase is another great idea. Not only will they smell sooooo good but they will make your daughter feel very special!

These are all ideas that will get you started on a flower power room!
