The Walls
Painting a room is an easier and a less permanent option. A common wall color for a Princess Bedroom Theme is pink. You can go with a bright pink or a soft pale pink. You can also choose a
faux painting technique
like sponging or rag rolling to give it that extra punch.
Some other optional wall colors are yellows (for a bright sunshine feeling) or purples (to feel like royalty). Blues are also great in this kid room design. She can feel like she is looking up in the sky or maybe her castle IS in the sky! It is up to you! Be creative and think about what atmosphere you are trying to achieve for your Princess Bedroom Theme. For more painting techniques see our
All About Walls page.
Another wall option is murals . Murals can be very simple or you can go all out. Some mural ideas are for a Princess bedroom: (1) a castle. What is a princess without her castle? ; (2) a picture of a princess in a field of flowers; (3) a princess kissing a frog; or (4) a princess dancing with her prince. The options are endless. Murals have come a long way.
Wallpaper is something you can do a lot with in a room. You can wallpaper every wall, do a
border
around the room in the middle of the wall or a border at the top of the wall. Some fun and feminine wall paper designs include
pink stripes
; pink, yellow and green gingham; or sky blue with clouds.
There are so many wallpaper designs to choose from for bedroom decorating. If you don't want to wallpaper the entire wall for your Princess Bedroom Theme, you can apply wallpaper cutouts all over the room or just one wall. You can really do a lot with these cutouts.
They are also ideal for adding accents around a window, bed or dresser mirror. For this kid room design you could go with flowers or star cutouts.
If you are on a tight budget, consider decorating with
princess bedroom castle posters.
The Bed
Oh, the princess bed! There are SO many creative ways to go when it comes to the bed for your Princess Bedroom Theme. It all depends on your decorating budget.
A wall canopy over the bed is a fantastic idea for a princess bedroom theme. Your little girl will definitely feel like a princess. Imagine her walking into her room and at the very center is her dream bed with flowing fabric cascading down each side. Does it sound hard? It doesn't have to be.
As with anything there are the budget ways and the more expensive ways to do this. For a low cost method all you need are some rubber bands, tea cup hooks and fabric. Let us explain.
You will need approximately 10-12 yards of fabric. Some fabric choices are: white or off-white sheer fabric; pink, yellow or purple solids; or striped fabric. It all depends on how you decide to do the walls.
Pick out fabric that compliments, not clashes with the walls. Take the fabric and fold it in half. Take the end with the fold and put a rubber band around it wrapping around twice and pull out the fabric so that it makes a puff.
Then hook the back of the rubber band to a tea cup hook that is attached to the ceiling at the top end of the bed. You want to center the hook in the middle.
Now take the two ends that are hanging down and do the same rubber band technique to create a puff on both sides and attach those to hooks that are on either side of the bed. Voila! And there you have it.
Another canopy option
for your Princess Bedroom Theme is the kind you can buy that are basically done for you. Some are
very reasonably priced
and others will dip into that decorating budget a bit. All you have to do is attach it to the wall or ceiling.
If you don't want to mess with all the canopy fuss there are some amazing beds for a Princess Bedroom Theme. They range from simple to all out glamorous! Here are some examples: (1)
plastic castle bed
, (2)
canopy bed
, (3) finial beds, (4) castle quick set bed (5) castle loft beds.
The Bedding
There are a lot of bedding options out there and if you don't know just what you are looking for it can be a little overwhelming. First, decide what type of fabric you want. You could choose cotton or even a nice silk.
Next decide the design of the bedding. Do you want a solid, print or bedding with a picture of a princess on it?
If you want solid color bedding, you could add some punch of color and design with the pillows. With a
solid pink
bed spread you could choose pillows in other shades of pink, yellows and purple. The pillows can be
solid
, stripes or have pictures of a princess on them. Pick out different shapes of pillows like square, round, or the roll pillows. A princess must have a sea of pillows to roll around in!
For bedding with prints on it, some good ideas are fairy princesses or castles.
Don't forget about the sheets and the bed skirt. Silk sheets with a cotton comforter is definitely fit for a princess! Depending on what type of bed you decide on, most beds need a bed skirt to complete the look.
The Accessories
What about the accessories for this girl bedroom theme? There are way too many options to go into much detail, so lets just list some ideas.
*Lamps - Fairy Princess Sequin Lamp or a
Castle Lamp

*Music Box
*Trinket Box
*Magic Wands
*Glass or Ballet Slippers
*Crowns
*Princess Dolls
*Stuffed Animals (ex:unicorns)
Accessories can be over done and make the room look cluttered so be careful when buying. As we always say...have fun and get creative!!
The Furniture
We have already covered the main piece of furniture for your Princess Bedroom Theme...The Bed.
Now let's briefly list some other possible furniture pieces to compliment this bedroom decorating idea:
*Dresser - A simple white dresser usually looks best. A dresser is not only great for holding your princess's attire but is a wonderful place for displaying some of those accessories.
*Toy Box or Storage Furniture - Oddly enough "toy" boxes aren't the best choice for storing toys, but there are some really cute ones out there for a princess bedroom theme that can hold stuffed animals or blankets. Storage furniture like a
bench
with a lid serves two purposes and is a great idea for any kid's room.
*Vanity Set - Most princesses need
a place to primp
. These range from plastic ones to nice
wood ones
and are a great addition to a princess room.
*Night Stand - A small wooden one painted
white
, pink or purple would look great next to her bed. It serves many purposes, for example: a place to set the
lamp
, a place to store books and a place to set that ever so important hairbrush. Princesses always brush their hair before bed!
*Table and Chairs - A princess must have a place to rest her feet and to
entertain her guests!
*Rocking Chair - She doesn't need just a rocking chair, she needs her own
personal throne!
The Rug
Rugs are good accents and there are some cute ones for a Princess Bedroom Theme. Our daughter has one that says "Princess". She loves it and feels like a princess every morning as she steps out of bed onto her rug!
The size you choose depends on the size of the room and what the purpose of the rug will be. For rooms with hardwood floors a large rug for them to play on is a good idea. Or if the room is already carpeted you can get by with just a
small one
that is for decoration purposes only.
Make sure the rug does not clash with the walls. If you have a lot going on with the walls, tone down the rug. If the walls are simple go for a great pattern that grabs you as you enter the room.
Are you excited yet?!? Do you have dreams and visions of how this Princess Bedroom Theme will turn out? Well, what are you waiting for...create!
