Teen Bedrooms - Breaking a Room Into Zones
When decorating teen bedrooms divide it into zones.
Believe it or not you can have separate zones in a small bedroom. It just takes some planning and searching for the right teen bedroom furniture. Let's take a room and divide it into 3 seperate zones. They are the sleeping quarters, the studying area and the hangout place.
The Sleeping Quarters
The sleeping zone should include a bed! We know... you're saying DUH! There are several options for the bed for teen rooms. There are the regular beds with the footboard and headboard. Some teens will be fine with a twin bed, others may want to move on up to a bigger one so they can sprawl out and get that great night of sleep.
It all depends on the size of your room. There are also daybeds. These can serve as two purposes: the bed for sleeping and the couch for the hangout area. A daybed is great teen bedroom furniture for those smaller rooms. Another teen room idea is a loft bed. Now for those taller teens this may not be a great choice but it could work for some. Under the loft bed you can have the desk for the study area and really conserve space.
The sleeping zone should also include a night stand to hold an alarm clock (your teenager's favorite), a phone if they have one (your teenager's REAL favorite), a lamp and storage underneath for books they like to read in bed. For those really cramped quarters there are night stands that you can mount to the wall. A perfect idea for teen rooms because they look really COOL!
Time For Studying
Now for the studying area. Your teen needs a place to produce all those straight A's...right guys? A desk and a comfortable chair will give them a better place to study as opposed to the bed. What is a bed for? Sleeping! What happens when you teens study on the bed? You get sleepy. It's completely out of your control when you fall asleep on your pile of books right?
Bottom line...a desk is good for studying and is pretty much a necessity in all teen rooms. Having a set place to do homework also encourages organizational skills which, whether you'd like to admit it or not teens, helps when moving into those adult years. They will get their work done faster also because they aren't hunting down the pencil, the eraser, the sharpener, notebook paper, etc...
The Hangout Place
Now all parents have different opinions as to what belongs in a teen's room as far as entertainment goes, but regardless of that, a hangout area is a great teen bedroom idea. This also depends on the size of the room. A futon is a good option for teen rooms because not only does it serve as a couch it can be turned into a bed for when they have their friends spend the night.
If you don't have the budget or room for a couch a good alternative are a couple of bean bags, which you can find by clicking on the teen furniture link in the box above. If not used for pillow fights or a trampoline they will last a long time! Bubble furniture is another fun way to go when looking for teen bedroom furniture. This is a fun and inexpensive teen bedroom furniture. You can get it in just about any color and it blows up in just minutes (that is if you are using an air pump).
A book shelf to store games and movies on is another good idea for teen rooms. If your teen has a TV and DVD player in their room then an armoire is an excellent option. It can store everything that goes along with those items like movies and video games. You can also store the stereo in there with all of their CDs.
The good thing about an armoire is you can close the doors and the entertainment is out of sight out of mind while they are spending time in their sleeping quarters or studying area. (Not that entertainment is ever out of the minds of a teenager, but hey, it's worth a shot!) A tv stand is also an option and they come in many different sizes and styles.
Teen rooms aren't just a room in the house anymore. It's important that they have a safe place to bring their friends to and that they feel good about their space.
Well, we truly hope we have given you a good start in your journey toward tackling those teen rooms. As we said before, decorating a teen's bedroom can be fun!
